Purchasing artwork online can be a little intimidating. One can be unsure as to what they are actually purchasing.
Is this an original piece of artwork or a reproduction? Is it printed on archival paper? Canvas? How do I frame it?
Learn all about the different types of prints and why giclée art reproductions are the highest quality prints you can purchase!
Typically, oil on canvas is reproduced on canvas. Now, Jennifer does like to break the rules and print her original oils on beautiful velvet paper. However, when it comes to larger pieces, like the newest abstract piece, New Beginnings, Jennifer prefers to have them printed directly on canvas.
The original painting, New Beginnings, is beautifully framed by Framebridge and decorated by Jennifer Maune. This custom piece was curated to display in her son's nursery. Jennifer Maune shared that she wanted something light and airy that complemented the space, allowing for interest and movement.
New Beginnings is available as giclée print on canvas. The colors are soft and airy. The piece would provide dimension to any room and is available for purchase here.
How does a reproduction look just like an original?
A reputable artist will only sell you a quality reproduction that has been professionally scanned and uploaded using the appropriate software to be printed using the highest quality inks and materials. The colors shown here on the original canvas are printed exactly as they were meant to be seen on canvas. Given the high resolution of the file, the quality of the reproduction is visible. You can see all the detailing as you would if this was the original piece!
Often times, it is hard to tell the difference between an original and giclée print!
How do I frame a large canvas print?
Another aspect of the print to look for is whether or not the canvas print provides mirrored imaging on the sides to allow for proper stretching over stretcher bars. Canvas prints are either mounted and framed, or stretched over a stretcher bar and framed within a floating frame. Larger prints, such as New Beginnings, look best stretched over a stretcher bar. Given the mirrored imaging, it is up to you whether you would like to frame the piece or not. This is personal preference!
